Mandarin Orange or Tangerine (Citrus tangerina)

Mandarin Orange or Tangerine Oranges, coloured pencils, copyright Paula Kuitenbrouwer

A mandarin or tangerine has an irregular oblate shape, a thick rind and a depression at the top of the fruit. The slightly dented rind of the mandarin makes you aware how much detail it needs to get the right texture. What a lovely packages of goodness, these shiny pockets juice. In Asia mandarin oranges are considered traditional symbols of abundance and good fortune. At New Year mandarin oranges and tangerines are given to friends and family.

  1. Thanks for the link to your new project….love the idea and I have been trying to take time each day for the past two weeks to focus on creating something-drawing, watercolors, and doodling too. Funny how we are on the same road.

I love your mandarins and I could almost taste them when I saw them. So pretty and I love the color. Great work.

Okay, now I want to EAT some mandarins.
