Kingfisher Tote Bag and Postcards, by Paula Kuitenbrouwer
Did you know that kingfishers are very old? Fossils of kingfishers have been found in rocks in Wyoming and Germany dating around 30-40 million years ago. More recent fossil kingfishers have been described in the Miocene rocks of Australia (5-25 million years old). However, my kingfisher dates from 2012.

The Kingfisher is one of my favourite birds, so beautiful. Your work looks gorgeous.
Thanks for visiting, Paula.
Have a great day. I’m off to the annual Frankfurt book fair.

I like everything about this!
Thank-you, Celeste. I’m happy to have discovered your blog because your paintings inspire me to pick-up my oil-paints again.
Wow, I did not know that!
Amazing detail in your artwork! It’s so lovely. You know I just love birds.
Thank you, Fergie. I was wondering if you had kingfisher photos. If so, please, post a link so that we can all enjoy your wonderful photos too.
Forty million years makes them rather closer descendants of some dinosaurs, doesn’t it?
Your subtle humor always gives me a smile.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kingfisher, though they are mentioned often in literature. I must research to see if any live in Northern America. The colors are so happy and fabulous. Like birds out of a fairytale.
Indeed, birds out of a fairytale. Especially when you quietly sit next to a pond and suddenly this bluish bird appears and starts fishing.
